Running & Eating On The Weekend


How did every body's weekend go? I feel like I spent my entire weekend running and eating. I only ran once, but it was the longest run of our training season. We ran 12 miles and I spent the rest of the weekend feeling everyone of those miles. At the halfway point on our run, we attacked the dreaded State Street Hill. This hill is the last mile of the Salt Lake City marathon. Every year I stress about this hill almost the entire race. Liz and I have been running a lot of hills this season and when we ran State Street this Saturday it was a little....well.....easy.

Now I will acknowledge that we were going slower than race pace and it was mile 6....not mile 12. It still seemed like no big deal. I think all those hills have been paying off. It could also have been the little break we took at the base of the hill, complete with a GU shot.

Since the run, I have felt a little beat up. It started with my knees feeling "tweaky". I have never had knee pain before and so I was a little nervous. I had been debating whether or not to get new running shoes before the race and this run sealed the deal. I immediately (after cleaning up and refueling) went online and ordered some new Nike Lunar Glides.

I have been foam rolling, stretching, and eating up a storm since Saturday and I am on the road to recovery. HM kicked off the weekend with a good start, grilled fish of cilantro rice and mango salsa. Um yeah  Sweets, he made it all by himself!

I ate a lot of quality food over the weekend, but I over ate. Absolutely over ate. I need to live moderation this week. HM and I have hit up the grocery store and we are stalked for the week. I have even packed my lunch and my gym bag for some lunch time cardio and MODERATE refueling.

The recipe HM made was from one of the William Sonoma cookbooks. The books always have top notch recipes, but man are they involved.
