Happy Halloween!

Hello Sweets!

Are you dressed up today? Let me know what you are going to be for Halloween! Some poodles are getting into the spirit:

"I'm a Sexy Nurse"
We will be shutting off the lights tonight, locking the doors, and heading out to dinner and a movie. Sorry kids. Like Martha Stewart, I just find trick or treaters a nuisance. That is not to say that HM and I didn't celebrate in our own way. We went to Tucson this weekend and accompanied the MIL to a party hosted by her club The......wait for it...............Rock and Roll Club. Ah yeah. I bet you can guess it was the wildest Halloween party thrown by a retirement active adult community.

Nice trunk grandma!

Behind the scenes info: The above picture features the locally famous Village Idiots. You can probably guess that the dance performed was the YMCA, but what you probably can't guess is that shortly after taking this photo, the song ended, and the women threw bras and panties at them. See? Told you it was wild!

Disclosure: The under garments were props.....not currently in use.

So want to know what every body's costume was?!?!?!?! Here we go....

HM and I as Popeye and Olive Oyl

SIL as Miss Congeniality

MIL as TWA Flight Attendant

MIL's Special Friend as Charlie Sheen

There were some great costumes and it was a great time. It was my kind of party, start time 7pm, end time 9:30pm. Ahh yeah, I closed it down!!!

My favorite part of the evening, besides HM's enthusiasm for doing the twist on the dance floor, were the small notices taped to all the soda bottles:

And you thought I made the Rock and Roll Club stuff up!

Alright Sweets, let me know what you are going as for Halloween. Better yet, send me a picture at sweatingsugarblog@gmail.com

Fall Leaves & Fake Lashes

Sa-Weeets,

How was every one's weekend? Mine was lovely. I played it low key, spending Saturday morning on a hike with man and dog. It was amazing and really made me appreciate the fall season.

The original plan was to workout afterwards but the thing about living on the bench of the Wasatch (Rockies) is that in order to hike, you must hike UP. It took us about 25-30 minutes of huffing and puffing before the trail leveled out and we could continue our leisurely conversation. So I counted it as my workout.

After our morning hike, it was time to do yard work....but let me be clear sweets, I sat on the deck and read a book while HM did the yard work. I can't say the Buckley helped much more than I did...

So this post is titled Fall Leaves & Fake Lashes....so can you guess what else I did this weekend? Did you guess get fake eye lashes? Dang sweets, you are so smart. So I am about to paste a very terrible picture of myself on the world wide web, but that is how much I care about you all. In the next two pictures I have ZERO makeup on. The only difference between the two photos are dry hair (after) and eye lash extensions (after). Here we go:

Before
After (zero makeup)

Pretty cool huh? I went to MAC and bought some lip gloss. Now with some quick face powder and gloss my beauty base zero has gone up. My goal is to reduce my get ready time as much as possible. Of course there was nothing quick about the 2.5 hours application time!!!

So it was either the fall leaves or the fun lashes, but I was feeling moved to do some fall photos with my BFF:

Note to readers: Just because I like to coordinate my outfits with my poodle does not make me a wierdo okay? So just lay off haters, don't be jealous of this chic.

Anyways, have a great Monday okay?

Massive Update

Hi Sweets,

It seems like I am always apologizing lately for my radio silence...but I'm sorry. I would have posted last night but there were computer issues. Gerrrrr. But I am back so let me catch you up.

Tuesday was girls night at (other) Emily's house. It was fun, as always. I could only stay for 45 minutes though because HM signed us up for a Wine and Cheese course here:
Caputos, Salt Lake City

Lucky for me, it was only one block away from (other) Emily's house so I was able to walk to Caputos and hitch a ride home with HM. (I picked up my car the next morning, giving me an excuse to grab a bagel before work).

Wednesday I came straight home form work and went to the closest trail with Mr. Dog for a short run.

We didn't have a lot of daylight to work with so we barely squeezed in 2  miles before we lost visibility. I probably could have squeezed in another half mile if I had not stopped to take pictures.....

good-bye sunlight.
Wednesday (today) I could barely squeeze in a workout at the gym (but I managed!!) because work was so hectic. With good reason....I was promoted today!!! Yeah that's right. After less than 8 weeks I have been promoted to a position that allows me to run a team of my own. I just found this out as I was leaving work today, so I am excited but a bit over whelmed still.

In other corporate updates, here was my OTD:

Top: Anthropologie
Skirt: Ann Taylor
Shoes: DSW
Necklace: Nordstroms Rack

Okay Sweets. I need to spend some time figuring out my game plan for my new team. Good thing I have already worked out, I'm exhausted!

Tractors and Fashion

Howdy Sweats!

OMG, I had so much fun yesterday!!! To start, HM and I volunteered at Touch a Truck. As with most volunteer events, we stood around a lot and helped out when needed. This left plenty of time for us to have fun.

Example A: I contemplated joining the S.W.A.T. team of Salt Lake.

I'll show you domestic disturbance!
Exhibit B: HM got to geek out over heavy machinery (sadly I was unable to operate due to my DayQuil doses).

Exhibit C: We pretended to know the answer when people asked us for directions to the restrooms and stuff.

Trust me, I'm a volunteer.
It was a great event and I am so happy to be involved with the organization that puts stuff like this together for the community.

In the evening, we headed to the sketchy warehouse part of town for a YWCA fundraiser. Although the fear of being mugged on the way to the event lurked in the shadows back of my mind, the event itself was really fun. It was an Art Meets Fashion event.

Sketch outside, trendy inside

As soon as we arrived, we hopped in the photo booth and cheesed it up:

Not bad for a picture of a picture!
We wandered around after waiting in really long drinks lines and looked at the art displays.

Very pretty for an old warehouse!
Then came the fashion shows. They were local fashion designers mixed with performance art. Very fun!!! My favorite, the trapeze girls. Um, I want to learn how to do this!!!!!

Smile for my blog and I will give you a cracker.

Oh what a fun time. I love weekends like this!!!!!! I hope everybody else's weekend is going GREEEAAAATTTTTT!!!!!!

Tomato Towers On Date Night

Good Morning Sweats!

I can't tell you how excited I am that the weekend is here. This week was a little rough on me. I have been sick and running around non-stop- both at work and after work. I welcome this Saturday morning so much I might even do a sun salutation or some other non-sense yogi thing.

Before I fill you in on what I am up to today, let me tell you about my evening last night. HM so handsomely suggested that we ride our bikes to the farmers market and get everything we would need to cook a dinner at home. It was the last farmers market of the year and we had been meaning to do this all summer so I quickly agreed!

The perfect couple, Dr. Jones and Big Birdy

hello hippies, I am here to buy grass fed beef!
We grabbed a mint limeade as soon as we got there and began the hunt for dinner. We ended up getting a top sirloin beef, cheddar bread, cool looking "green" beans, and heirloom tomatoes sold by the cleanest looking vendor there. We also bought a fudge brownie from a lady, who from the looks of things, takes her quality control process very seriously.

It takes a genius to turn this:

Into this:

Sweating Sugar's Tomato Towers
That big sucker in the above photo was the base layer, followed by a fresh basil leaf. Next I stacked a slice of each of the remaining tomatoes, sprinkled with gray sea salt, and topped with shredded basil. Although not pictured, I made a simple balsamic reduction for the finishing topper.

I am not sure what kind of "green" beans these were but they were fantastic!

The white parts are butter shavings, pre grill

Here is our entire feast once it was completed:

Good thing I carbed up last night because HM and I are spending our morning volunteering at Touch a Truck. It is a Jr. League of SLC event where families and their kids can see trucks, tractors and more close up. If you are in the Salt Lake City area, head on down today from 10-2pm for a fun time!!!

The proceeds raised from this event go to the Jr. League of Salt Lake- an organization committed to improving the lives of women and children. The league is instrumental in providing services to those less fortunate.

Buckley = Less Fortunate
No my dog's leg is not broken. As lady gaga would attest, he was just born this way.

All right sweets, I am off to do my part. Have a lovely Saturday!!!!!!

Must Not Cry

Oh Hey There Sweets,

Woo wee, today was non-stop action packed for me!!! My work was doing flu shots today. Now, normally I pass on the flu shot, but I am currently suffering from a stupid cold. You now how it goes when you are sick right? You start saying things like.....What does healthy feel like? Will I ever be healthy again? or the all classic.....WHY ME?!?!?! So this year I decided to just do it. It is an odd thing to get a shot in front of all your coworkers and their families. HM kept telling me that since my coworkers children were not crying, I had no business crying.

Just cry already little girl!

No tears here sweets. Oh yeah, Unst Unst Unst!

Of course then the lovely nurse casually mentions that since it is my first flu shot ever, I will likely feel some slight flu like symptoms. Oh just lovely! I already feel like crap with this cold!!!

Gee, thanks lady.
I left work early and headed over to an elementary school in the area for my first Kids in the Kitchen session. Side note: It went pretty well. The nurse told me that I should move my arm as much as possible to avoid being sore from the shot.  Sounds smart to me! I headed to the gym after Kids in the Kitchen and attempted a kickboxing class.

Hated it. I stuck it out for 20 minutes but then I bailed and hit up the row machine. I finished my time at the gym with a grueling 10 minutes on the stairs. I turned it to Fat Burn and upped the level I do by 4 levels....um, I definitely sweated broke in my new workout clothes!

Speaking of new workout clothes.....I am very much looking forward to tomorrows's upload on lululemon. There is a new pink rumored to appear sweets. It's called Paris Pink I think and ME WANTS!!!!

Is that you Paris Pink?
