Its a Friday-Monday & Me Happy!

Hey Sweets!

Good Monday? Me too. I am feeling pretty happy this evening. There are a lot of things that are contributing to the happiness so I thought I would share a few of the things that have me riding high today:

1. I loved my outfit today. Figures, the one day I forget to snap a OTD shot. It involved this new skirt from Anthro:

2. I finished my first big project at the new job today. Just in time for number 7 on this list:

3. I discovered an AMAZING new flavor of Greek Gods yogurt. Go directly to the store after reading this post and get some:
It tasted like Fall, but not dead leaves

4. I went to a killer spin class right after work. After rushing to tie up all loose ends on my project, I needed to blow off the steam and lower my stress level. Accomplished! I used to take classes from this instructor 3 years ago and then I moved and switched gyms. Now that I get a discount to this gym and it is right by my office, I get to be reunited with her!! Yah!

Plus, I looked great in my new sports bra.

5. After that tough spin class, I didn't need to feel guilty when I brought home dinner from here:

6. I have the cutest poodle EVER:

7. I have the rest of the week off and I will be spending it in the happiest place on earth:

Boom! That's Disney World Ya'll
Feeling good peeps! I hope this high lasts until Saturday for the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon!!!!!! Wish HM and I luck!!!!!!

What makes you happy Sweets?

Battle Of The Ages

Hello Sweets!

I am writing this post as I catch up on the first Biggest Loser episode of the season. Dang I like this show and I am very excited for the new season!!! I am calling it right now Sweets, Ramon is going to be in the final four.

So for those of you that don't follow the show, this season is called the Battle Of The Ages. There is going to be three teams, broken down by ages: <30, 31-49,  and >50.

I love Bob Harper, and although part of me misses Jullian's sneer, I am excited to have two new trainers on the show. Maybe I will get new workout ideas from watching the show. I guess there will be a lot more of me watching the Biggest Loser while on my spin bike:

Bike: "I was lonely this summer"
This episode, however, was watched in my pajamas on the couch.........which is a much more attractive couch than this picture would lead you to believe. At least I cleaned myself up this morning with this OTD:

Dress: Express
Belt: Express
Boots: Fryes
Earrings: from Argentina street fair
Turquoise Ring: vintage-thanks grandma

How many of you sweets watch the Biggest Loser? If not, what is your favorite show on TV?

It's a Hogs Life

Hey Sweets,

Well, we did it! HM, his sister, and I finished the Dirty Dash yesterday. People told me that you could "get as dirty as you want" leading me to believe you could also stay as clean as you want. Not true as it turns out. It was diiiiiirrrrrrtttttty. We started out the day looking so sweet:

For those of you who don't know, mud is a slippery devil! There were a few trenches that you had to climb through and trying to climb out of the banks was nearly impossible. We all have whip lash today from our slips and falls. Some of us fell more than others- you know who you are!

Then of course there were the walls. Out of four, I could only make it over two. We hurdled over hay bails, crawled through muddy tunnels, waded through muddy water up to our waist, swung over slop on a rope swing, and even slid down a huge muddy slide.

It was gross but FUN FUN FUN. I highly recommend doing this race if you can. Make sure you shell out $4 for the hot shower at the end, otherwise you will freeze to death! We took a finish line photo and I will definitely post that when it comes in. Until then you will have to make do with these photos I stole from other blogs and Facebook pages!

Liar Liar - My Pants Can't Zip Higher

SaaaWeeeets,

How is everybody today? Good I hope! I had a pretty good day myself, but there was one little rough patch that I thought I would share with you sweets. HM was his regular handsome self and agreed to come to my office and take me out to lunch. Ahhhh. My building is the only office building in a fun little plaza of restaurants, shops and a movie theater. We have been working our way around the lunch options in the plaza.

Cute, a watercolor rendition of my office and plaza. Thanks Google images!
Today we went to a place called Santa Monica's. They serve things like pizza, pasta, calzones, salads, etc. HM immediately wanted a calzone, but figured it was too "heavy", but then we noticed a section of the menu that was titled "Light Stuff". There were 4 "mini" calzones (why am I using so many "quotations") listed in this section. They each included a calorie count. HM ordered one that was 530 calories....what a "glutton" and I ordered one that was listed at 410 calories. Sounds good to me! Hee ahhh. Here is what came out:

Had I not eaten the center out, it would have looked bigger!
There is NO WAY IN HELL this monster was only 410 calories!! Maybe it only used 410 calories worth of OIL!!!! It is the size of my friggen fork for god sakes! Yes, I laid my fork on top of it to show size relation.I left screaming LIAR LIAR, MY PANTS CANT ZIP HIGHER! Apparently this is an issue that has been uncovered- restaurants are dramatically under estimating the calorie count of their food. A study by Tufts University claims that restaurants often UNDER estimate, on average, the amount of calories by about 200%. Excuse me? Yes, 200%. I am not saying I won't go back there, some of the salads look great, but I will be doing my own calorie estimations THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Take my fat food fest as a lesson learned for all of us, okay sweets?

Here is the OTD, taken before this lard fest lunch, when my zipper still zipped!

Skirt: White House Black Market
Shirt: Anthropologie
Shoes: A million years old (look familiar Ash?)
Perfectly Match Earrings: Forever 21
Poodle: Charity Case

Have you ever experienced a "too good to be true" calorie count moment?

A Luau In The Mountains

Hey Ya'll (sweets),

Just wanted to check in with you all before I tucked myself in for the night. Man has it been a busy day! I was in and out of a work conference all day and didn't get home until 9:30pm. Dang, corporate life is exhausting. My company is hosting a huge conference all week and tonight ended with a luau....yep, a luau in SLC. Say hello to my dinner:

Hey lil piggy, can you say aloha?

I don't have a problem eating food presented this way, but is it too much to ask to camouflage the bullet hole before plating it? Just kidding, it just looks that way in the picture.

Because of all the work festivities, I did not get to work in my new lunch time gym workout. I worked from home a bit, and probably could have found a chance to workout, but I could not look like a drowned sweaty rat for the evening luau now could I?!??!!

This is what a luau in SLC looks like
It was a wonderful night out...probably about 75 degrees after the sun went down. As I sat there, drinking my mango mojito and alternating sips with bites of Babe (see above), my mind started wandering.....is hula dancing a good workout?

Polynesian Zumba?
I had a lot of fun today, but I am most definitely exhausted! As I am writing this post, I have eggs boiling for my lunch tomorrow. Also in my lunch pail, and by that I mean small lululemon bag, are pre-packaged blueberry packs and clementines. Add a couple of hard boiled eggs and roasted almonds and you got yourself a lunch! I will be back on track tomorrow at the gym during lunch and then eating my goodies throughout the day.

Time for bed for this little sweaty sweet. I leave you with this OTD from yesterday:

close (but blurry) shot of the pattern. LOVE!
Shirt: Gap (xsmall!!!!)
Skirt: Gap (size 4!!!!)
Necklace: old...who knows!
Shoes: Corso Coma

I have not bought anything from the Gap in probably 15 years....but now that I know I wear the teeny tiny size there, I might have to start!!!! It also helps that the outfit was purchased for under $50! WORD.

Do you sweets have a favorite store? Do share!

In Memory...

Good Evening Sweets,

I am sure all of you remember exactly what you were doing 10 years ago today. I know I do. In fact, I remember almost every detail of that day. I lived in California at the time and was a student at UC Davis. I had one of those awesome clock radio alarms. Instead of waking to music that day, I woke to the news men speculating on what had happened in NYC. Was it a freak accident? Was it on purpose? I decided to hop out of bed and turn on the TV in my room. There I saw the footage of the burning tower and watched in disbelief as the second plane came from out of nowhere-on live TV- and struck the second tower.

A few years later, I moved to NYC. I worked in an office in Jersey City and everyday, I rode the subway down to ground zero where I boarded the Path train to New Jersey. The Path train had been rebuilt by then, but it was still located in the footprint of the towers.  There was not one day that I didn't stare at the massacred cement and metal beams and feel heart broken at the devastation.

This was a picture I took from my office. I used to look at lower Manhattan and try and imagine what it would have been like to have worked there when the twin towers were still part of the skyline.

I hope everyone took a moment to reflect on that day, but more than anything, I hope that you all feel a sense of purpose and can identify the sources of happiness in your lives. Without that, life is not worth much.

Gym Rat For Lunch

Hey Sweets,

You are probably sick of hearing about it by now, but I am still working out the kinks of how I plan to balance my work schedule with my gym schedule. As I come to the end of my first week, I decided to try a few things.

Working out after work SUCKS and I already get up way earlier than HM as it is....so I am going to take the low cost gym membership offered through the company and hit up the gym at lunch. It is literally in the next parking lot. See:

Can you spot the Golds Gym?

This is the first week I have implemented my plan and I have to say...it works out GREAT!!!! I absolutely love it. First, I actually look forward to going to the gym. It means a break from the office. I have always been the type of person who stays at her desk and eats- making for one looong day. Now, I work for ~4 hours, take and hour and a half off for the gym, grab lunch on the way back into the office (usually a lunch I packed from home) and finish the rest of the day. I love it!!!! So far, I am still sticking to my normal schedule:

Monday: Easy Run 4-5 miles
Tuesday: Weights (routine j)
Wednesday: Sprint or speed run 3-4 miles
Thursday: Weights (routine k)
Friday: OFF
Saturday: Long run 5-10 miles
Sunday: Weights (routine l)

I will keep you posted on any new modifications to my routine.

To ensure I don't look like this:

Just another day in corporate paradise

I take basic shower items (i.e. loofah, body wash, deodorant, shower cap, face wipes) so I can quickly rinse off without getting my hair wet. I plan to bring my trusty friend- the blow dryer to dry any sweaty/wet hair. Bada bing bada boom - work ready!

OTD:
Shirt: Old...who knows?!!?!?
Capris: Express
Necklaces: random collections

I think we need a new poll! This week, I want to know,

When do you sweets like to get your workouts done?
Morning
Noon (approx.)
Night

Have a wonderful holiday weekend sweets. Any fun plans?

Weekend Recap (There Was Cake)

Oh Sweets,

Man, was this long weekend awesome or what??? I made the most of my weekend and I feel invigorated for the upcoming week.....well, that and it is only four days right? Here is a little recap of what I was up to this weekend.

Saturday:
Woke up early and took dog on an easy hike. HM and I may have had too much fun the night before, so we found a nice trail that gave the illusion of hiking without the effort.

I may have gone by lululemon and picked up a new top. Maybe, that's none of your business though so I don't have to say for sure. I will say that if I did get a new top, it was only to motivate me to get my self to the gym for a much need weight lifting session.

After our hike, I offered to go scout frames for HM so that he can pick out a new pair when he has an appointment on Tuesday. I even found a pair that made me look younger...but more Harry Potter younger. Pass.

HM and I capped off Saturday night at an Indian restaurant by our house. It is such a good place and every time we think of going there it happens to fall on a Sunday and they are closed. Lucky us the mood hit on a Saturday for once!

Couldn't decide if I liked rust or burnt sienna more

Sunday:
The weather has been so great so we decided to take the doodle on another little adventure. This time in a nature park by our house that is reserved for off leash hounds. Lucky luck doodle! HM tried to teach Buckley to swim but it was a fail.

For lunch, we headed up to Snowbird to enjoy a little Oktoberfest action. Awesome!

We then headed back down the canyon and found a suitable place to set up the tripod and snap our anniversary photo. The winning shot of our One Year Anniversary Photoshoot is....drum roll......

Later that evening, we celebrated our anniversary by recreating an early date at The Paris Bistro. It is a cute little restaurant tucked into the neighborhood by us.

We ended the night by feeding each other ceremonial bites of our wedding cake. It was actually not as disgusting as I thought it would be....except I failed as wife and did not defrost it all the way. Opps. Look forward to a future of that HM!

I was tired after my wedding so I just plopped the cake into a container. Magic.

Monday:
With a bonus day off this weekend I decided to use it for two of my favorite activities: Running and Shopping. I went on a short 4 miler with HM in the morning and then spent the afternoon outlet shopping in Park City with Miz Liz. Not a big success for me, but I still had a good time. Here is a a bonus Weekend OTD for you my sweets:

Shirt: Random Find at T.J. Max
Shorts: Bebe
Shoes: Minnetonka's
Earrings: Anthropologie

Well, that is a whole lotta update from me! Time for bed! I will be back tomorrow with a new poll for you sweets.
