Modesty Poodle

Morning sweets,

Well yesterday's trail run with Miz Liz was a B-U-S-T. About 15 minutes into our hike up the lightning, thunder and rain started. And yes it was still in the 90's. I could imagine my tragic end and the headlines in the paper- Beloved Blogger Struck By Lightning In The Woods : Poodle Found At Scene. Tragic I know, so we hightailed it back to the car as fast as we could. No trail run photo, but here is a cute photo I found of Miz Liz and I from a couple years back:

It was Halloween. I like to think that is the reason my hair is crimped!

Not only did we bail on our calorie burning plans, we opted to consume calories at my new favorite sushi restaurant Yellowfinn. I am lucky that Miz Liz agreed to go, considering she is one of the sweets who chose "I'll just have the rice, thank you." in this weeks poll. It's a tie right now so please click the option that best describes you. You don't even have to be a follower, even silent blog stalkers can vote.

Anyways, after sushi I went to the gym. I just started season 3 of Gossip Girl on the iPad. Oh the scandals. This morning, sick of feeling like a loner/loser, I set my alarm and headed to an early Xtend Bar class. I wanted to show you one of my favorite Lululemon tops (I didn't buy it during my self imposed drought, promise) but I didn't know how to take a photo of the back of the shirt without creating a gratuitous butt shot. Enter modesty poodle police:

Thanks dude.

Sweets, what is a good TV series that I should watch after I finish Gossip Girl?

Too Old For Nothing

Good morning sweets,

Grab a pen and paper and get comfy. I am about to give you some words of wisdom. You are never too old to do something. That's right sweets. This thought came to me about 4am last night as I lay awake, waiting for the clock to strike 5am (which I consider to be the cut off for burglars, rapists and hooligans to break into my house.) Since HM is still in Arizona, I stayed alone in our house for the first time.

Sure I questioned myself. "Am I too old to be sleeping with the lights on?" I decided no. Furthermore, I don't like that idea- being to old to do something- it is essentially saying that you missed that part of your life, too bad. Well I say grab your glow sticks and get to that rave you have been wanting to go to. You only get one shot at life and you really don't want to miss out on any of it.

I have been reminiscing a little lately and going through old photos. I noticed something. HM and I clearly don't feel too old for costume parties!!!

Masquerade Ball - New Years 2011

Disco Party - March 2011

Murder Mystery Dinner Party- 2010

Ugly Sweater Party - Christmas 2010

I think its clear who brought the crazy into this marriage.

Yep. HM.

Now this blog is of the health and fitness kind and so of course I would have to plug something health related. I have heard that the body you have at 40 is the body you grow old with. Physical fitness is very important to a healthy life. To ensure you can experience the most out of your life, take care of yourself. Today. Tomorrow. Yesterday.

What is something that you do that some people would consider you too old to do? I must know sweets!

Happy Trails

Good morning sweets,

I started off my morning by sneaking in a 4 mile run with HM. It was a pretty good one and since it was a flat run, we felt like rock stars! Speaking of rock stars, Buckley wants you sweets to know that he has a new scarf:

Tomorrow, I will be running on that same trail with miss Liz because HM is flying to Arizona today to visit his family. HM and I are really close and spending even the shortest amount of time apart is super hard for us. Sort of sweet, sort of pathetic I know. Normally I would go with him, but this is a last minute trip due to an illness in his family. Send your good vibes to HM and his family!

Getting HM to pose is like...whatever the opposite of taking candy from a baby is...

Don't worry, I burned this outfit after seeing the picture

I am going to have to keep myself extra busy while he is away. That will probably mean extra gym time.

What about you sweets? How do you entertain yourself when you significant other is out of town? Also, Buckley wants to know if you think neon green is his color.

Reservations For 1 (mile)

Hello sweets,

In the previous post, we were talking about food adventures. Well, this weekend I had quite a lovely food related adventure in Park City. HM and I participated in the Savor The Summit. It is an annual dinner where tables line Main Street and you can make a reservation at any of the participating restaurants and enjoy a 4 course meal (with wine pairings!) under the stars. It was an enchanting evening of music and good conversations. The line of tables stretched for 1 mile!!!!

Each restaurant decorated their section of the table. There were some amazing themes! Here are just a few pictures I snapped of different sections:

We sat at the Purple Sage restaurant section. It had a chic horse and bridal theme. The food was absolutely amazing. If I had to describe the food I would say Fancy Western? My entree was the duck on a bed of green chili mac & cheese with a side of snap peas. Wow. I am a terrible blogger and did not take one picture before I snarffed (oh come on spellcheck, that is a word).

After my dessert of chocolate/fudge cake with a side of butterscotch pudding (and my 4th and final wine pairing), HM rolled me back down Main Street and to the car. I was able to snag a photo of the shoe tree. It is hard to see in this picture/lighting, but people have been tossing sneakers into the tree for decades. So cute.

Don't you just love nice dinners out? What are some of your best sweets? What is your all time favorite restaurant?

You Call That Food My Dear

Hey there sweets,

You are a tough bunch, oh yes you are. Last week I asked you if you run in the rain. Well, 66% of you responded with "Of Course!" and the remaining 33% of you will do it if you have to....but that's still pretty cool. Next time it is raining, think about Sweating Sugar and get out there and get your run DONE. Don't you make a liar out of my polls sweets!

Now that I know how tough your are, I want to know how adventurous you are. Before you share too many details of your personal exploits, I would like to narrow that down to food related adventures. I know that I have eaten some crazy dishes in the course of my travels:

And I am living proof that none of that food has killed me (yet), so I would have to say that I am adventurous when it comes to food. What about you sweets?

This week's poll question:

Are you an adventurous 'lil eater?

If it is on a plate, I try it!

Only if I know the species.

I'll just have the rice, thank you.

Can't wait to hear from you! As always, the poll is located in the top right of this blog. Feel free to add a comment about the most adventuresome thing you have eaten.

Ew, I Got Sweat On Me!

Arghhhh Sweets,

As I write this, I am still red faced and sweaty from our 7 mile run this morning. In the past, I have always started my training on January 1st, with the grand finale being the Salt Lake City Marathon in mid April. In Utah that means I train all winter and run in the snow and then a week or two before the race it magically melts and the temperature soars to 60 degrees. I never realized how lucky I was! We started our run about 8:30am this morning and it felt cool enough.......but that didn't last long.

I am trying to incorporate hills on our long runs and boy did I ever. We decided to try out the recently finished bike trail that starts by our house and runs......well, UP. It passes through a place called Parley's Hollow (off leash dog haven!) before crossing two freeways and then running along the bench of Wasatch Mountains. We ran 3.5 miles and then turned around. I am not sure why it was uphill both ways but this was a very hard run. Probably the most challenging route I have ever "crafted".

Of course, the minute it was over I thought, "that was great! I am sooo tough!" I changed my Garmin display to show Average Pace instead of just pace and that was much more useful. Even with all the hills (and a few walk breaks up the biggest of those hills) we still kept an okay pace. That is by my standards, not yours sweets. I usually feel good about a pace closer to 10 min mile, but I will still take this:

And I will also take this:

Impress me with your toughness sweets. What major sweaty plans do you have for this weekend?

Gourmet Goodies

Good Morning Sweets,

I love getting mail. Fun stuff, not bills and court summons (just kidding). I think this is even more true in a time when emailing and texting are so common. Well, yesterday I got a package in the mail!!! It was from lovely Vanessa over at Gourmet Runner. She and her husband are building their own house (I know right?) and for the first time in a long while, she had access to an oven to cook dinner in, as opposed to a microwave. She asked her readers for ideas on what she could cook for dinner to celebrate. Guess what? She picked my recipe!! Unst Unst Unst! As a thank you, she sent me enough goodies so I would not have to cook:

Thanks Vanessa!!!! Those honey caffeine things are awesome! In fact, the package was empty by the time I took that picture!

I thought I would share the same recipe I shared with the Gourmet Runner with you sweets. It is great for you veggie lovers out there, plus it is really easy! I like to wear a cute apron while I make it (or at least when I pull it out of the oven and HM is in the room). I feel all Betty Draper.

  • olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 eggplant, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • salt t
  • grated Parmesan cheese (the fancy kind)
  • 1 zucchini, sliced
  • 1 yellow squash, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 3-4 large tomatoes, chopped

Saute the oil, garlic and eggplant until "mushy". Add parsley to mixture. Add the eggplant mixture to the bottom of a baking dish. Sprinkle in salt and a layer of cheese . Layer in each vegetable, adding salt and Parmesan between each layer. Save the tomatoes for the final top layer and cover generously with Parmesan and some salt. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.

Enjoy! Figures, I don't have a picture of the Ratatouille but I have this picture of the dish I use to make it...........

Are we the only ones who play cook the kitty? What is wrong with us? And of course we washed it, like eww.

Sweets, if you end up making it, let me know what you think! Also- please vote in this weeks poll if you have not already done so....closes tomorrow!

No More Lemonade

Hello Sweets,

I decided last night what I would blog about today. It happened when I was folding laundry. It was one of those long overdue loads so it pretty much tested the maximum capacity of the washer and dryer.

repair man Buckley determining size limit

As I was folding my laundry, I realized that it was all lululemon workout clothes. Like OMG. Like WTF. Like LOL. Like NWIDHENC (No Wonder I Don't Have Enough Normal Clothes). Here are just the shirts from yesterdays load.

Now on one hand, I spend a lot of time in my workout clothes. True.....and I also like to look good when I workout, also true, but do I need this many? Keep in mind, this is not everything, just what was dirty at the time. That was when I decided to try something drastic.....something never before done in this household.......can I go a month (30 days) without buying one piece of athletic gear? Probably not, but I am going to try.

willing to trade one black cat for run response shorts

The sad part is even as I write this post, I keep thinking about the new Dew Berry color released in today's Lululemon upload. I mean, I don't have that color yet.....or the tango red........and fall is practically around the corner so I should consider getting another Define jacket........

Oh boy, this is going to be tough. I will let you know how this 30 days without lululemonade goes...but mamas already thirsty!

Do any of you sweets find yourself with too much fitness related gear on your hands? What was the hardest thing you ever had to give up for 30 days? Please vote in this weeks poll, top right, if you have not already done so!
